The competition featured both motorcar and motorcycle segments, providing a comprehensive challenge for all participants.

The Selection Process

Participants were selected based on their performance in the BBDC Instructor Competition 2024 and the 1st Inter-Driving Centre Meet 2024.

BBDC Instructor Competition 2024

The BBDC Instructor Competition 2024, held on 29 June 2024, was an event designed to challenge and enhance the skills of our instructors in both driving and riding aspects. The competition provided a safe yet competitive environment, allowing instructors to test their abilities.

The event was structured into three categories—Masters’ Category, Challengers’ Category, and Rookies’ Category—ensuring that instructors of varying levels could participate. The top performers from each category were selected to represent BBDC for the 1st Inter-Driving Centre Meet 2024.

The 1st Inter-Driving Centre Meet 2024

BBDC hosted the 1st Inter-Driving Centre Meet 2024 on 14 September 2024, with two other driving centres on our premise.  Each driving centre sent their representatives to showcase their skills and knowledge in both driving and riding aspects, with the top performer of each skill course sharing their knowledge and experience with all participants.  Special guests from Honda Rainbow Motor School, Japan- Mr. Katsuaki Umesawa and Ms. Chiaki Arai were invited to share their expertise at the event.

Pre-Competition Training in Japan

Prior to the competition, participants took part in a two-day intensive training conducted by Mr. Fujio Noguchi from Traffic Education Center, Rainbow Saitama, Japan. This training aimed to further enhance their skills and knowledge, focusing on road safety. Additionally, it provided an opportunity for the participants to familiarise themselves with the vehicles used in the competition.

Motorcar Segment

Figure Driving and Course Slalom.

In the motorcar segment, both Figure Driving and Course Slalom required participants to manoeuvre their vehicle through a series of obstacles with precision, in the shortest time possible.  Both challenges evaluated participants’ skills, proficiency in controlling their vehicles, and the ability to judge distances and angles skilfully.

Motorcycle Segment

Figure 8 Riding, Pylon Slalom, Course Slalom and Narrow Plank.

In the motorcycle segment, participants were evaluated on their steering, balancing, and quick reflexes through the Figure 8 Riding, Pylon Slalom, and Course Slalom courses, where they aimed to complete the challenges in the shortest time possible.  The Narrow Plank course focused on balancing, concentration, and low-speed control, where participants aimed to stay on the plank for the longest time without tipping over.

Awards Presentation

Proud Moments

Mr. Koichiro Kageda, President and CEO of Honda Rainbow Motor School Co., Ltd. giving out the awards to our instructors:

Lim Wei Sian who won the third runner-up, and also the President Award for his outstanding performance.

Suhaimi Bin Sudirman who received the Good Effort Performance Award.

This trip has been incredibly rewarding for me, as it allowed me to meet new people and exchange valuable insights with the Japanese instructors.

I gained a deeper understanding of effective coaching methods and also improved my skills. This was my first time participating in a competition hosted by Honda Rainbow Motor School, Japan, and I was impressed by how smoothly the event was organised.

I noticed a gap between the skills and knowledge of Singaporean instructors and the Japanese counterparts. I am determined to close this gap and hope to reach their level of standard in the near future.

  Lim Wei Sian

First and foremost, I would like to thank the management of Bukit Batok Driving Centre for giving me the opportunity to participate in the 3rd Honda Rainbow Instructor Competition at the Saitama Traffic Education Center in Japan.

The training conducted by Mr. Fujio Noguchi, both before and after the competition, provided valuable exposure. The training for both motorcycle and motorcar was impressive with their facilities and different terrains available. The two-day event was truly an eye-opener. I had the chance to observe different approaches and skill sets from other participants.

This trip and competition have inspired me to further improve my skills and knowledge, which I can share with my colleagues.

  Suhaimi Bin Sudirman

During this trip, I learned four key values—Bridging, Bond, Dedication, and Consistency. These are the very qualities I observed in the Japanese instructors, and they perfectly reflect my experience. It was truly a priceless and indescribable journey.

This trip and competition were an eye-opener for me. I had the chance to witness elite instructors from Japan, who not only impart their knowledge but also deliver it with dedication and patience. Their advice to me was simple— keep practicing.

The bond among the instructors, whether young or old, new or experienced, is strong. They treat one another with the utmost respect. I’m certain that these B.B.D.C. values will stay with me as I continue my journey as an instructor in the future.
